?️ Keeping Chatterchat Safe: How We Tackle Spam, Hate Speech, and Harmful Content

At Chatterchat, we’re all about connection, creativity, and community. But with any open social platform, there’s a challenge: keeping the space safe, respectful, and free from abuse. As our community grows, so does our responsibility to protect it — and we take that seriously.

We’ve been seeing more spam and other harmful content lately, and we want to share what we’re doing about it, what we’re planning for the future, and how you can help.

? What We’re Up Against

Running an open social platform like Chatterchat means confronting a wide range of problematic content. Some of the most common issues include:

  • Spam: Bots and bad actors flooding posts or private messages with fake promotions, links, or scams.

  • Hate Speech: Messages or content targeting people based on race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, or nationality.

  • Illegal Content: Including drug sales, threats, and promotion of criminal activity.

  • Explicit Content: Nudity, sexual material, or violent imagery — often graphic, abusive, or non-consensual.

  • Animal Abuse: Content that involves the mistreatment or exploitation of animals in any form.

  • Misinformation: Dangerous or misleading claims, especially in areas like health, politics, and safety.

  • Gambling & Betting: Unregulated or unauthorized betting promotions, including crypto scams, fake casinos, or underage gambling schemes.

These are not just violations of our terms — they violate the trust we’re building with our community.

? Our Approach to Moderation

We use a layered moderation system to keep Chatterchat clean and healthy:

1. Rate Limits and Verification

Right now, our biggest weapon against bad content is limiting how and when users can post or message. We use:

  • Email and phone verification to cut down on fake accounts

  • Rate limits to slow down mass spamming

  • CAPTCHAs to block automated bots before they even get in

This has already helped reduce a large volume of low-effort spam.

Note: These tools are just the beginning — we’re building more advanced systems for the future.

? Our Content Policy: Zero Tolerance

Some kinds of content simply aren’t welcome here — ever. These include:

  • Hate speech, threats, or harassment

  • Sexual exploitation or non-consensual explicit content

  • Drug-related sales or promotion

  • Animal cruelty

  • Gambling or betting promotions

  • Violent or gory content

  • Any attempts to defraud or scam other users

  • Missleaading links: Some users post links to fake websites, phishing pages, or false contact info like fake phone numbers — often trying to scam or deceive others.

We remove this content immediately when we find it — and we ban users responsible, often permanently.

? What’s Coming Next

As Chatterchat grows, we’re exploring new tools to scale our moderation:

  • AI-based spam detection

  • User reporting and flagging tools

  • Community-based moderation features

  • A trust score system to highlight good users and demote bad actors

But we want to grow responsibly — and that means building these features with care and transparency.

? You Can Help Too

Moderation isn’t just our job — it’s a shared effort. You can help by:

  • Reporting any content that violates our rules

  • Calling out suspicious behavior

  • Being kind, respectful, and thoughtful in your own interactions

Together, we can make Chatterchat a space where people feel safe being themselves.

Thanks for being part of this journey with us. ?
