Principles of Operation
Before delving into the applications, let's understand the basic principles of operation of the eddy vortex Flowmeter. The eddy vortex Flowmeter works on the principle of vortex shedding. As a fluid flows past a bluff body (such as a cylinder or sphere) mounted in the flow path, vortices are shed alternately from the upstream and downstream sides of the bluff body. The frequency of vortex shedding is directly related to the velocity of the fluid, and hence, the flow rate can be determined by measuring this frequency.
