Wedges are essential to your golf equipment that can make or break your game. Daily golfers will find it much easier to play the shots within 120 yards with the correct wedge. To have a constant short game, you need the correct wedge makeup. Otherwise, you're just making the game much more challenging for yourself.

Most golfers wonder with questions like:

  • How do you choose the right wedges?
  • How many wedges do you need?
  • What's the difference between the different types of wedges?

WHAT IS A WEDGE?

Golf has different clubs:  drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges golf, and putters. While drivers and fairway woods are the lengthiest clubs in the bag with a lower loft, Irons are lengthier than wedges, have less loft, go longer and are used for various shots. But the significant differences  between wedges and irons:

  1. Wedges have more concise shafts, making them easier to handle.
  2. Wedges have more loft than irons, which produces a loftier launch.

Most iron sets only come with one or two wedges—a pitching wedge and sometimes a gap wedge (also known as an approach wedge). You will probably need to add one or two individual wedges to complete your 14 clubs. Unlike buying a set of irons, there are more aspects to wedge golf, including loft, bounce, sole, grooves, length, finish and more.

How to buy a golf wedge?

1] Loft:  The first thing to contemplate is the loft. Unlike in the past, golf club manufacturers nowadays make lofts stronger without negatively impacting the launch angle. Wedge lofts should be adaptable with more vigorous lofted irons to ensure a distance gap in your game.

2] Grooves:

The grooves are another essential part when looking for golf wedges for sale as they help in producing spin and adds control to your shorter shot  into and around the green. This is why replacing your wedges more often than irons or woods is important, as fresh grooves, paired with the right golf ball, will help create more greenside spin. There are two types of wedge grooves: normal and full-face.

a] Normal

A normal wedge groove design has grooves only in the centre of the face. A full-face groove design extends the grooves across the entire face to add more control and forgiveness. You can also choose different finishes for your wedges.

b] Full toe

Full toes wedges differ from the normal standard. The full toe shaping boosts confidence at the address and allows more control on all types of wedge shots. This makes the wedge more versatile and great for hitting out of bunkers.

3] Bounce and sole

Another element of wedges is the bounce, which plays a big role in helping you get the most out of your short game. Bounce is the angle between the leading rim of the club and the trailing cutter; this area "bounces" as it makes contact with the golf ball. It would be best if you used different volume of bounces to match your swing type and course conditions.
