Jasprit Bumrah has returned to India's ODI squad for the upcoming series against England, while veteran batter Virat Kohli has also been named, subject to fitness clearance.

The 32-year-old pace spearhead was rested for both the one-off Test and the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan as part of the BCCI's workload management plan. Kohli, meanwhile, suffered a hamstring injury in the IPL 2026 final and was subsequently ruled out of the ODI series against Afghanistan. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who replaced Kohli in that squad, has not been picked for the England tour.

The three-match ODI series serves as a continuation of India's build-up to the 2027 World Cup in South Africa. It also sees the return of Harshit Rana, who impressed with both bat and ball during India's series against New Zealand earlier this year before being sidelined by a right knee lateral meniscus tear. The injury required surgery and forced him to miss both the skyexchange cricket and the subsequent IPL season. He was recently added to the squad for the final ODI against Afghanistan.

The selectors have also brought Axar Patel into the squad in place of Harsh Dubey, who was picked for the Afghanistan series. The 32-year-old Axar was part of India's ODI squad for the Australia series last October but has not played an ODI since. There remains no place for Ravindra Jadeja, with Washington Sundar continuing to occupy the role of the spin-bowling all-rounder.

There is also no national team return as yet for seam-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya. He was initially selected for the Afghanistan ODIs but was later ruled out after suffering a setback during his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. The Mumbai Indians captain had been troubled by back spasms during the IPL, which forced him to miss four matches, and is understood to have subsequently suffered another injury to his leg.

Gurnoor Brar, who impressed during his debut series against Afghanistan, has retained his place in the squad, while Prince Yadav makes way for the returning Harshit Rana.

Meanwhile, BCCI updated that Varun Chakaravarthy was in the final stages of his rehab at the BCCI CoE following his left foot injury sustained in IPL 2026. He is ruled out of the T20I series against Ireland.

India's tour of England will begin with a five-match T20I leg starting on July 1. The three ODIs will be played on July 14 (Birmingham), July 16 (Cardiff) and July 19 (London, Lord's).

India will play two T20Is against Ireland on June 26 and 28 before heading to England.
