Meaghan Rath has been cast in the new CBS comedy pilot, Jury Duty. She will star alongside Jack Cutmore-Scott, who was previously announced as part of the show. Rath and Cutmore-Scott first worked together on the Fox comedy series Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life. Their professional partnership turned personal, and the couple is set to marry this May.
Jury Duty focuses on a group of jurors who are sequestered together while deciding a case. Despite the serious nature of the trial, the jurors struggle to agree even on small things, like what to eat for lunch. Rath plays Jen, a sarcastic and slightly controlling book editor. Jen thinks she is low maintenance but is actually quite the opposite. She feels like the last single woman among friends who are married and have children.
Rath recently finished a three-season run on the CBS series Hawaii Five-0. She is also known for roles in Being Human, Rogue, and The Assistants. Rath has made guest appearances on popular shows such as New Girl, Schitt’s Creek, and Banshee.
The pilot episode of Jury Duty is written and executive produced by Dana Klein and Stephanie Darrow. Other executive producers include James Acaster, Kenton Allen, and Matthew Justice from Big Talk Productions. Christine Gernon directs the pilot and also serves as an executive producer. CBS Television Studios is producing the series.
This season, CBS ordered eight comedy pilots in total. Among them are two shows produced by Chuck Lorre. One is The United States of Al, which has received a pilot production commitment. The other is B Positive, starring Annaleigh Ashford and Thomas Middleditch.
Meaghan Rath’s role in Jury Duty marks her return to comedy and adds a fresh dynamic to the upcoming CBS lineup. The show promises a humorous look at the tensions and quirks that arise when strangers are forced to spend time together under unusual circumstances.
