In India, hair transplant surgeries are becoming increasingly popular. However, it is essential to understand the hazards connected with hair transplantation both before and after the procedure.

A hair transplant is a surgical treatment used to manage male and female pattern baldness. Hair follicles are transplanted from the donor location to the receptor site during this technique. Hair transplant operations are becoming more common as technology progresses. It can restore hair loss to the point that you will forget you were bald. But, following a healthy life and taking care of the treated area effectively is a must to achieve successful results!

Many hair transplant surgeons advise patients to closely follow the hair transplant before and after guidelines.Dr. Urvashi Chandra is the Best Hair Transplant Doctor in Pitampura at Chandra Clinic. She has discussed some things you should do before and after a hair transplant.

A hair transplant technique is a good approach to treat baldness or thinning hair. The treatment may be tailored to your specific requirements and is influenced by factors such as scalp condition, age, and so on. If you have any of the following symptoms, a hair transplant treatment would be excellent for you.

  • Male pattern baldness has been identified in you.
  • Women who have regular hair loss and thinning hair density
  • Scalp or burn damage
  • You have a well-defined bald spot or pattern.

Pre-Op Instructions

Before Surgery

  • No alcohol or caffeine-containing beverages the night before or the morning of your operation.
  • There will be no exercise the night before or the morning of your treatment.
  • Consume a nutritious breakfast.
  • Wear a button-down shirt or something that can be readily removed. T-shirts are not permitted!
  • If you need medicine before coming to the office, it is best if you are dropped off and picked up after your operation.
  • Medications will be administered or prescribed. An antibiotic and a sedative are included.
  • Before the procedure, fill out your medical questionnaire and sign your consent paperwork.
  • Please evaluate and adhere to the advice for foods and herbal supplements to avoid before surgery since they have aspirin-like (blood-thinning) properties and can complicate the procedure.
  • Please think about your hairdo for your surgery. The donor location must be shaved down to skin level. A short haircut will make it obvious to others that you’ve had surgery, but a lengthy haircut will allow us to comb your hair over the donor site and give some disguise.
  • Please do not hesitate to ask as many questions as you like.
  • Smoking is strictly forbidden since it will cause your injuries to heal more slowly.
    • Before applying hair color or other topical treatments, please wait 6 weeks.

Post- Operative Care

Immediately Post OP

At the time of discharge, a spray bottle and a water solution are provided. When the given solution has been finished, you may use tap water.
For the first 12 hours, you will need to spray the transplanted region and the donor every 20 minutes. Put some towels over your shoulders and allow all the water to trickle down.
Spray aggressively and with both hands to ensure that you cover both transplanted and donor regions. Do not handle the transplanted hair.
After you have completed the 12 hours of spraying, you should rest for a few hours.
Drink plenty of water at this period and eat normally.
Premedication is used during surgery, and you must not drive after your treatment and be accompanied by a responsible adult when leaving the clinic.

Day 1 to day 3

  • From day 1 (the day following surgery) to day 3, you should spray every half-hour during the day and sleep normally at night.
  • When the given solution is done, you may replace it with tap water.
  • Spraying inhibits scab development on both the transplanted and donor areas. During this time, the transplanted grafts must also be maintained hydrated; this is critical for their survival.

Day 4- Day 14

  • On day 4, you will begin using tea tree shampoo.
  • Fill a clean dish with lukewarm water, add 10 cc of shampoo, and mix it up with a cup or bowl to make it fairly soapy. Pour the solution over the transplanted and donor areas, and rinse off any soapy solution. You may gently pat it with a clean cloth.
  • From day 4 until day 14, this should be done once a day.

Note: Do not stand under a power shower, and you may continue to wash the donor region to reduce irritation from days 4 to 14. You may store the spray bottle in the refrigerator.

  • Your sutures (if applicable) must be removed between days 7 and 10.
  • FUE patients should come to the clinic for a post-operative check-up two weeks after surgery
  • FUE patients may have yellow crusting on the recipient region 7 to 10 days after surgery. This is not a reason for concern and will go away within 14 days.
  • It is recommended to begin using Regaine after day 14 to promote growth; this should be applied solely at night on the transplanted region and can be taken for 6 months or constantly post-operatively.

Day 14 and after

  • Return to your usual hair washing routine, complete using the tea tree shampoo, switch back to your prior shampoo, and aggressively wash the hair with both hands to eliminate any crusts in the region. You can now get your hair trimmed, and colored, and continue utilizing treatments like gels and hair sprays. We exclusively propose a scissor cut for FUT patients.
  • Rigorous physical activity should be avoided for 4 weeks after FUT and 2 weeks after FUE; avoid gym work, swimming, cycling, tennis, golf, any heavy lifting, and rigorous hill walking. This is done to prevent the scar from extending.
  • When you return to physical exercise, begin carefully and gradually build up to your prior activity levels.
