Dubai hikes parking fees at event venues to ease congestion

Dubai has introduced higher parking fees in key event areas, starting today, February 17, 2025. The new rates will significantly impact drivers heading to the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and other major event venues.

New Parking Fees at DWTC and Event Zones

Dubai’s main parking operator, Parkin, has confirmed that parking rates around the DWTC will now be AED 25 per hour during events—a sharp increase from the previous rates, which started at AED 2 for 30 minutes and capped at AED 16 for four hours.

Why the Increase in Parking Fees?

The revised pricing is part of a citywide strategy to manage congestion and improve traffic flow in high-demand areas. Events at DWTC regularly attract large crowds, leading to heavy traffic. By increasing parking fees, authorities hope to encourage more people to use public transport options such as the Dubai Metro, RTA buses, and taxis.

This is just one of several changes introduced in the past year to enhance urban mobility in Dubai, including variable Salik tolls and revised public parking charges.

Where Will These New Rates Apply?

The higher event-based parking fees will apply to the Grand Event Zone surrounding DWTC. Similar pricing models may be extended to other high-traffic event zones in the future.

Additionally, from March 2025, Dubai will introduce premium parking zones in high-demand areas, with rates as follows:

  • AED 6 per hour during peak hours (8:00 AM – 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM)
  • AED 4 per hour in standard parking zones during peak times
  • Free parking remains available overnight (from 10:00 PM – 8:00 AM) and on Sundays/public holidays

These updates aim to optimize parking availability while promoting alternative transport options.

How Will This Affect Drivers?

Motorists who frequently park in Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, Jumeirah, Deira, and Bur Dubai should be aware of these changes. Visitors attending events at DWTC are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid higher fees.

To adapt to the new system, drivers should:
Use public transport whenever possible to avoid premium parking fees.
Plan trips during off-peak hours to take advantage of lower rates.
Stay updated on parking zone changes via official city announcements.

Dubai’s Move Toward Smarter Parking Solutions

The introduction of dynamic parking fees aligns with Dubai’s long-term vision for smart urban planning. These policies aim to reduce traffic congestion, enhance accessibility, and encourage sustainable transportation options.

As the city continues to grow, such measures will help ensure smoother mobility for residents and visitors while promoting eco-friendly travel alternatives.
