Growth of Music Festivals

Over the last decade, music festivals have grown exponentially in popularity around the world. Cities and towns are now leveraging local music scenes and heritage to attract tourists. Some of the biggest music festivals attract hundreds of thousands of people each year and have become a major economic driver for their host communities. For example, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California generates over $700 million for the local economy annually. Glastonbury Festival in England is the largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world, attracting over 200,000 people each year.

Many cities and towns have developed specially curated  Music Tourism and heritage trails to showcase their rich musical histories. Nashville, being the country music capital, offers various guided bus and walking tours to landmarks and studios associated with country legends. The Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum conducts city-wide soul music tours to locations prominently featured in Stax records. Liverpool has a very popular Beatles-themed walking tour passing the homes Paul McCartney grew up in and places integral to the band's history.
