In a scathing political statement, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has accused the BJP-led central government of deliberately misusing the 'Waqf by user' provision to stir up property-related controversies across India. The allegation came during a meeting with party general secretaries and state in-charges.

Kharge claimed that the government's intention behind invoking ‘Waqf by user’ is to instigate conflict over religious properties, thereby creating social division. He alleged this move is part of a broader pattern of vendetta politics.

Supreme Court Gives Weight to Opposition Concerns

Referring to the Waqf (Amendment) Act, Kharge said the Supreme Court has acknowledged the constitutional concerns raised by Congress and other opposition parties. The case is currently pending before the apex court.

“I am happy that the Supreme Court recognized the arguments raised by us. Only Congress was officially asked to provide inputs on the matter,” Kharge said, implying growing judicial interest in what he calls a "legally flawed and politically motivated" amendment.

⚖️ National Herald Case: Spirit of Vendetta?

Kharge also reignited the National Herald case debate, claiming that the Enforcement Directorate’s actions against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, including property seizures in Delhi, Mumbai, and Lucknow, were done out of “rage” and under a “spirit of vengeance.”

? Political Strategy or Targeted Conflict?

Kharge’s statements highlight growing opposition concern that the BJP government is attempting to create communal and legal instability by questioning the legitimacy of Waqf land claims.

According to Congress, the 'Waqf by user' controversy is not about legal clarity, but about undermining minority institutions and diverting attention from real governance issues.
