Those Who Are Compelled to Obtain an FSSAI License
Food Caterers: FSSAI license is mandatory for those providing food for private functions, celebrations, weddings or for corporate catering services (e.g., corporate canteens, educational institutions, hospitals) to ensure that they comply with safety standards.
Food Packaging Units: Units that manufacture or process containers, wrappers or films used to pack food are required to obtain an FSSAI license.
Manufacturers: All businesses that manufacture, process, pack and label food products, regardless of their scale of operation, must obtain an FSSAI license.
Food Importers and Exporters: Companies that import food products into or export them from India are required to obtain an FSSAI license to comply with safety standards.
Traders and Distributors: Individuals or organizations involved in the distribution, wholesale or retail business of food products must obtain an FSSAI license to ensure compliance with the quality and safety of the products.
Hotel and Restaurant Chains: FSSAI license is mandatory for restaurants, hotels, eateries, cafes, food stalls and canteens that serve food to consumers to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
Food Storage and Transport Units: FSSAI license is mandatory for organizations engaged in storage, warehousing and transportation of food products to ensure that food safety standards are monitored during storage and transportation.
